Normally, the most suitable shooting mode is manual focus mode. In fact, you can shoot with any mode even the iAuto mode. Anyway, we must consider adjusting the aperture, shutter speed, ISO and exposure compensation . In addition, to use the camera’s stabilization system more effectively, we have to adjust the correct focal length of the manual lens. Do this by using the Super Control Panel (press the OK button on the camera’s LCD) and select the anti-shake system. Then press the Info button and select the focal length of the lens. As in my case, using a Nikon AF-S 50mm lens, I selected 50mm. To sum up, I think it is worth the price. It is cheap. It also has a tripod foot. The material is solid and strong. With a built-in aperture scale makes it easy to adjust the aperture value. We can also use this adapter with both G and D lenses. A tiny point that I dislike is when mounting the adapter to the camera, it does not fit the mount of the camera very well. It wiggles a bit.”
Viltrox NF-M4/3 Lens Mount Adapter Review
I am a user of Olympus E-M1 Mark II which is an M4/3 camera. I still have a Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8 G lens left after selling my full frame Nikon D750. I want to use this lens with my E-M1 Mark II so I have to buy a lens mount adapter to allow my Nikon lens to be used with my camera.
I ordered a Chinese brand Viltrox NF-M4/3 Lens Mount Adapter for Nikon F-Mount, D&G Lens to M4/3 Mount Camera. It is a cheap mount adapter which costs about $32.
The Auto Focus Mode in my camera will not work with this lens mount adapter. Therefore, My Nikon AF-S lens will become a manual focus lens. I have to adjust and control the focus ring of the lens to make pictures in focus before releasing the shutter. Fortunately, I can still use focus peaking and magnify focus features of my camera while using this lens mount adapter.
The material of a Viltrox adapter is aluminum. It weighs 167 grams or 5.89 ounces. The adapter has a 8-stop aperture adjustment scale and a tripod foot to use with a long and heavy lens. This tripod foot is easy to remove if you don’t want to use it.
It looks nice when mounting the adapter to the lens and the camera. When it locked onto the camera, it has a solid feel but not 100%. I give it 95% because it still moves quite a bit. Anyway, I don’t think it affects the usage.
Because the adapter has neither electronic parts nor optical glasses, so when using the Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.8 G lens, we cannot use the camera to adjust the aperture. We have to use the aperture scale of the adapter. We can adjust the shutter speed and exposure compensation on the camera as usual. In the image’s exif file, there is no aperture data in it.
Therefore, using the adapter with Nikon lenses, it may be suitable for a certain photography such as still photography, landscape, street or portrait. It requires some practices to shoot movable objects. The picture below I shot the orchids with bokeh background without difficulty.
As for shooting with the deep depth of field, it is easy to do so by rotating the focus ring of the lens to the infinity mark. The picture will be sharp from foreground and background.
