Some menu items of Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III camera may be grayed out or appear dimmed as we know it. It makes us cannot select the grayed out menu items. The cause is the conflict between the customization of some menu items that have the effect on other related menu items. However, we can make these menu items available to us.
The following is a collection of grayed out menu items on each main menu of E-M1 Mark III and how to solve the problems. (This may apply to other models of Olympus OM-D camera as well.)
Shooting Menu 1
– (Still) Image Quality Menu, Image Aspect Menu, Drive/Self-timer Menu, Intrvl. Sh./Time Lapse Menu are grayed out: Change Mode Dial from Video to Still Mode. And/or on the Custom Menu > B1 > (Still) Fn Lever Function, choose mode 1, 2 or Off instead of mode 3.
– Digital Tele-converter is grayed out: Turn off Multiple Exposure or Keystone Compensation on Shooting Menu 2 or turn off Fisheye Compensation on J1 of the Custom Menu > Camera Utility in case of using the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 8MM F1.8 Fisheye Pro lens.
– All menus are grayed out except Reset/Custom Modes, Picture Mode, and Digital Tele-converter: Change Mode Dial from Video to Still Mode.
Shooting Menu 2
– Overlay Submenu on the Multiple Exposure Menu is grayed out: Select Number of Frames.
– Live ND Shooting is grayed out: Change the Mode Dial to M or S Mode.
– Focus Stacking item on the Bracketing Menu > Focus BKT is grayed out: The lens that attached to the camera is not compatible with Focus Stacking function.
– All menus are grayed out: Change Mode Dial from Video to Still Mode.
Video Menu
– (Video) Flicker Scan submenu on the (Video) Mode Setting Menu is grayed out: Change Video Mode from P or A to S or M and change Mode Dial from Still to Video Mode.
– (Video) Fn Lever Function submenu on the (Video) Button/Dial/Lever Menu is grayed out: On the Custom Menu > B1 > (Still) Fn Lever Function, choose mode 1, 2 or Off instead of mode 3.
– Movie (Mic) submenu on the Video Menu is grayed out: On the (Video) Specification Settings submenu, change the video quality from FHD High Speed 120fps to other settings or change the video quality in the SCP from FHD HS 60p to others.
Playback Menu
– Print Order is grayed out: Print Order works with Jpeg files not RAW files. If all images in a memory card are raw files, the Print Order will be grayed out.
– Copy All is grayed out: Insert SD card in both Slot 1 and Slot 2.
– Wi-Fi Connect is grayed out: Choose Setup Menu > Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Settings > Availability > On.
Custom Menu
A3 AF/MF
– AF Limiter and AF Focus Adj. are grayed out: Change Mode Dial from Video to Still Mode.
D1 Disp/Beep Sound/PC
– (Sequential/Self-Timer) Settings are grayed out: Change Mode dial from Video to Still mode.
D2 Disp/Beep Sound/PC
– Frame Rate is grayed out: Change Mode Dial from Video to Still mode.
E1 EXP/ISO/BULP/Metering
– Noise Reduct. Is grayed out: In Drive mode, do not choose Sequential High, Pro Capture High, Sequential Low, Anti-Shock Low, Pro Capture Low, and High Res Shot.
E2 EXP/ISO/BULP/Metering
– (Still) Flicker Scan is grayed out: Change Mode Dial to S or M and select Drive Mode to any silent mode, Pro Capture and High Res Shot.
– All menus are grayed out: Change Mode dial from Video to Still mode.
E3 EXP/ISO/BULP/Metering
– All menus are grayed out except Exposure Shift: Change Mode dial from Video to Still mode.
F Flash Custom
– All menus are grayed out: Change Mode dial from Video to Still mode.
G Quality/WB/Color
– Color Space is grayed out: Change Mode dial from Video to Still mode.
H1 Record/Erase
– All submenus on the Card Slot Settings except (Still) Save Settings are grayed out: Insert card(s) in the card slot(s).
– (Still) Save Slot submenu on the Card Slot Settings Menu is grayed out: Select Standard or Auto Switch in (Still) Save Settings submenu.
– All submenus are grayed out on the Card Slot Settings except Assign Save Folder: Insert another card in the card slot.
– (Playback) Slot submenu is grayed out: Do not select Standard or Auto Switch on the (Still) Save Settings submenu.
I EVF
– EVF Grid Settings is grayed out: Do not select Style 3 on the EVF Style Menu and on the D3 Menu > Grid Settings > Apply Settings to EVF must be turned off.
– S-OVF is grayed out: Change Mode Dial from Video to Still mode.
J1 Camera Utility
– Fisheye Compensation is grayed out: This menu is only available when the camera is attached with the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 8MM F1.8 Fisheye Pro lens.
Setup Menu
– Record view is grayed out: Change Mode dial from Video to Still mode.
